To remove financial barriers preventing students access to sports and foster the overall development of student athletes
We are your neighbors and friends. We are coaches and fans. We believe that athletics contribute to a child's overall success. We are local parents that want every student to have the discipline, teamwork, resilience, and confidence that playing sports provide.
We offer a variety of programs to help children participate in sports. These range from financial assistance with sports physicals, nutrition, equipment, transportation, and related costs.
This is a grass roots effort of neighbors helping neighbors. We need your assistance raising awareness and fundraising. Donations are the engine that drive our success. In addition, we are seeking passionate volunteers to work events and be ambassadors for this program.
14% of all students between the grades of 4th and 12th do not play sports solely due to the expense and lack of needed equipment.
Student athletes miss 16% less school and have higher GPA's then their non athlete peers.
A clear pathway to athletics comes in many forms. Assistance could be as small as a pair of shoes, a backpack, or a piece of equipment. Perhaps a child's obstacles are even greater. STARTING BLOCK can cover the cost of sports physicals, nutrition, league fees, transportation, camps, and more. SBGA is ready to help, and we make it easy. All it takes is a coach, teacher, or school counselor to recommend a student on the form in the menu above and we will take it from there.
SBGA operates in two distinct categories to support our mission of access and equality for all Georgia students.
For our 4-6th grade applicants we want to remove financial obstacles that prevent ACCESS to sports. These are recreation level athletes who need help paying for fees and equipment.
For our 7th-12th grade applicants who already have access to a school sport, we will focus on EQUALITY by providing them with items coaches feel are necessary for making the student feel equal with their teammates. These can include sports physicals, new equipment, and other related expenses.
